What is Ankh?
The Ankh (☥) is an ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic symbol representing the concept of life, and by extension eternal life. It resembles a cross with a loop at the top.
Origin & History
Dating back to the Early Dynastic Period of Egypt (c. 3100 BCE), the Ankh was one of the most common motifs in Egyptian art. It was associated with gods like Isis and Ra, and with pharaohs as symbols of divine authority.
Spiritual Meaning
Represents the union of male and female principles (the cross and the loop), the breath of life, and the doorway between mortal and immortal existence. It symbolises the journey of the soul.
Healing Associations
Used in energy healing to channel life force energy (similar to the concept of prana or chi). Meditating on the Ankh is said to strengthen the connection to one's own vitality and spiritual purpose.
